Another Millionaire joins the new Space Age
May 16, 2005 21: 28 EST
ExWeb has reported earlier on the roughly 12 competitors racing to grab their handful of the emerging private space travel market.
The Space Age is only a few years away, and the new Astronauts will give AdventureStats plenty to do. The Everest game will start all over - except in Space this time: There will be the youngest woman, the first blind person, the first from each country, the "Four Poles" - on and on.
We'll have the usual debates: What's Space, really? Which rocket went higher? Phew.
Anyways, Canadian Arrow Partners issued a press release today stating that they too are aiming for the skies, teaming up with Indian/American entrepreneur Dr. Chirinjeev Kathuria, to form the new Canadian corporation called PlanetSpace. Arrow was originally formed to compete for the $10 million Ansari X PRIZE, and has continued its work to take passengers into sub-orbital flight.
Space age warriors
Chirinjeev Kathuria has built companies around innovative technology and healthcare businesses. He was a founding director of MirCorp, the Russian partnered company that became infamous after Gold & Appel Venture Capital founder Walt Anderson (51), was arrested at a Washington airport a few months back, in what federal prosecutors call the largest criminal case of individual tax evasion.
Investing 20 million, Anderson formed MirCorp, teaming up with the Russian builders of the Mir ("peace") space station in 2000, after his success with Orbital Recovery (repositioning of telecomm satellites), and G&A in 1992. Dennis Tito and TV producer Mark Burnett were some of the famous names in the project, designed to make the space station commercial. In the end, the station was scrapped by NASA - but the private space dreams could not be stopped.
A few years from now - the reality of them will be a fact.
